Jandhyala Veera Venkata Durga Siva Subramanya Sastry (14 January 1951 - 19 June 2001) was an Indian film Screenwriter, Director and Actor from Telugu Cinema. He is revered as a Comic genius and has directed several successful comedy movies in Telugu. He has also introduced several comedy actors including Brahmanandam to the film industry. He is the grandfather of the popular actor Varun Sandesh of Happy Days fame.

Jandhyala, popularly known as 'Hasya Brahma' Jandhyala, was born on the auspicious day of Makara Sankranti - Pongal (January 14) in 1951 at Narsapuram. He is the son of Jandhyala Narayana Murthy. He graduated with a Bachelors in commerce from SRR & CVR College in Vijayawada.

Since his childhood he was interested in Stage plays Drama particularly mythological characters with elaborate getups. He even won prizes for his performances while in school.

He was a noted playwright during his college days. His fist play being 'Atmahuthi' (self immolation) however his next play 'Ek Din Ka Sultan' became a pretty popular enacted over 10000 times and script got reprinted 15 times. His last play was Gundelu Marchabadunu.

Jandhyala never planned his entry into Telugu filmdom. After completing graduation, he wanted to become a chartered Accountant (C.A), reached Chennai to get trained for CA exams.

There, in one of the stage shows, Jandhyala happened to meet Sri. Gummadi VenkateswaraRao (popular Character artiste) at one of stage shows who advised him to join films as story writer. Soon he got support from none other than Sri. K Viswanath, director of several meaningful Telugu films. Soon, he started writing for several films that saw success at box office.

Jandhyala turned into a director with the film Mudda Mandaram in the year 1981. Jandhyala abhorred 'bawdy comedy' popular till then and believed that the dialogue should be crisp, simple and natural like real-life conversations, which the audience could easily identify themselves with, and enjoy. He had followed this rule in all the movies for which he had written and directed.

The man who had made millions laugh heartily with his breath-taking comedy films breathed his last on June 19, 2001, due to a massive heart attack, at 50, and after completing his silver jubilee year in films.

Jandhyala was lived with his wife Annapurna and two daughters- Sahiti and Sampada.
